East Head BBQ

An informal LOA BBQ is being held at East Head Beach, Chichester Harbour on Saturday 23 July 2005. All that is required is some decent weather, bring your own BBQ and food (picnic if you prefer) and some cold beers.

East Head Beach is an ideal spot to anchor, particularly for those who like to take the ground on the beach. Last year was a good turn out with some staying the night, others sailing on into the sunset or alternatively taking a buoy or pontoon at Itchenor. So why not come along enjoy the company of other LOA members in an informal setting for the day.

Intentions are to rendezvous around noon on the beach under the LOA flag.

High Water for Portsmouth is at 0112 BST and 1346 BST at approximately 90% springs. Hope to see you there.

Approach and Entrance details:  The following is an extract from the Chichester Harbour website - Click here for a Word file or here for a PDF file.

East Head: Beyond the beacon there is a pleasant anchorage on a sandy bottom. It is fine in settled weather, but very crowded in summer and rather exposed except from south and east. A shallow creek marked by perches leads to the Roman Landing and West Wittering Sailing Club.

Itchenor: There is a pontoon at the end of a long low jetty below the harbour office. Lie her for 15 minutes only to take on water and load stores or bodies. Upstream are 6 large visitors moorings where you may be invited to raft up to six abreast. Still further upstream is a visitors pontoon on the south side of the channel. If in doubt, call the harbourmaster on VHF C14. A pretty village with few domestic facilities, save "the all important" pub."
