 Hunter Marine Adjusts European Strategy

Luhrs Marine Limited, a subsidiary of Hunter Marine Corporation, America’s largest sailing yacht producer, began manufacturing operations in the United Kingdom in early 2001 as a significant investment to gain market share and credibility in the European region.  Hunter products are marketed under the Legend brand name in the UK and Hunter throughout the rest of the world.

In most aspects, the UK investment was a success, and the Hunter brand has continued to experience growth and increased market share in the world’s largest sailing yacht market, with active distributors in 25 European countries.  The work ethic and efficiency of the local UK labour force has been excellent, and has allowed Luhrs Marine Limited to build over 600 mid-range yachts from this facility to date.

The decision has now been made to consolidate manufacturing to our main US factory in order to gain greater efficiencies from the additional volume of European sales and to help offset the softening being experienced in some of the global markets we serve; including the US boating market.  At the same time, Hunter Marine is accelerating its new product development program with a strong view towards European customer tastes to ensure continued acceptance in this significant region.

Further, Luhrs Marine will retain a sales support, plus customer service and parts premises in the UK, which will keep us close to our customers and allow us to serve our growing European distributor base in an effective manner.

Hunter has recently introduced its new 50’ flagship yacht, which will be included in our display at the upcoming Paris and London Boat Shows.  At the smaller end of the range, Hunter also introduced its new 27x performance boat at the recent Southampton Boat Show with strong sales results.

Ellen MacArthur Trust

We have received the following by letter from The Ellen MacArthur Trust reference our fund raising at this years south coast rendezvous.

Dated 23 Sep 05:

"Dear Sirs

I am writing to thank you for the donation fund raising, totalling £785, raised in a raffle at the 10 year Anniversary Rendezvous of your association.

As an organisation we aim to keep our costs as low as possible. This way, the donation form organisations like yourself, as much of the money as possible goes directly towards taking young people recovering from cancer on sailing trips during the summer.

The money you have sent really does make a difference to the lives of young people that have been through a particularly harrowing time.

By taking the young people on this sailing trips we help them to see that there is life beyond their illness and help to build their confidence. On the trips they meet other youngsters and share their experiences, which helps, them to realise they are not alone in their struggle against cancer.The trips also give them a unique experience that we hope they will never forget. In the words of one parent;

Opportunity to buy Half Share in Legend 37.6 - New Instruction  (1/Feb/07)

Rodney and Sharie are selling their half share in Jasarine as a result of other commitments and as a result have not used the boat much in the past few years.
Our boat partners, the Cole family, are sad as the partnership has been sweet and has worked very well.
Essentially they are keen sailors who don't overuse the boat. (on account of dinghy sailing at Chichester yacht Club, horses at home and usual family commitments for two young daughters who are also enjoy sailing)
They do not want to lose/sell the boat and are thus looking for a suitable alternative partner.
The boat is moored in the Chichester Channel (big waiting list for prime moorings) and berths in Chichester marina in the winter at reduced rates.
Jasarine in great condition having been regularly maintained and serviced and there is a full range of navigation and radar on board.

New Price - £30,000 for half share of the boat, which is currently (Jan 07) out of the water and being surveyed.
